It actually happened! After going 0-2 on Western States and Hardrock lotteries, I surprisingly had my named pulled for High Lonesome 100. It's a race that I've been trying to get into for the last 3 years. The best part is that I'll be racing with my adventure buddy, Michelle Blackard. Drum paced me for my very first 100M race at the 2014 Rocky Raccoon 100. We've successfully buckled together at the 2016 Leadville 100 and the 2017 Run Rabbit Run 100. We've even raced together at the Franklin Mountains 100K relay, where we finished 2nd Overall. We are basically undefeated when running together, so this is a great omen for High Lonesome. Obviously, High Lonesome in July will be my only big race of the year. I'll do other local races as tune-ups. But the rest of my year is already packed with pacing gigs all over the country. No one asked, but below is my race calendar for the year.
I was part of Kelley Mims' crew at her first 100M at Arkansas Traveler in 2018. I'll be in her corner again as a pacer for buckle number 2!
Erik Kennemer paced me for my first 100 at Rocky Raccoon in 2014 and I returned the favor when he made his 100 debut at Rocky in 2021. We both paced a buddy at Cruel Jewel in 2022, so we both know this course very well.
"The High Lonesome 100 is a high flying endurance race in the Sawatch Range of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. With 23,500' of vertical gain, reaching an elevation of 13,150', it's a hell of a course. The race runs in a loop through some of the most beautiful singletrack in the state, and takes runners on the National Continental Divide and Colorado Trails, through two ghost towns, over five alpine passes, through remote basins, over soaring ridges, all in 37 hours."
This one is going to be "beautifully brutal." My favorite kind of race.
I raced Bear in 2020. I'll be going back to the point-to-point course to pace Greg Donahue. This will be his 3rd 100M race and I paced him for his first buckle at Dino Valley in 2021.
This will be a redemption race for Pam Pham as she DNF'd at mile 81 in 2019. There was a race week aid station cut-off change that cost her that year. Cut-offs will not be a concern this year, because she is an entirely different athlete and runner now.
After an unsuccessful 100M debut last October at the muddy Lake Murray 100M, Katie Durst is back for redemption. I'm honored to help pace her to her first buckle.
Jen Kirpatrick already owns a 6th Place finish here from 2019. I was part of her crew them, and I'll be back as a pacer this year as she aims for an even faster time.
